Welcome to Quails'R'Us.
Quails are brilliant, whether you keep them for pets, meat or eggs. The quail that are frequently discussed on this site are the Japanese quail (Coturnix japonica) and the Chinese Painted quail (Excalfactoria chinensis). They are suitable for most if not all gardens, small or large. As they are primarily ground dwellers and nest on the floor. They are ideal for aviaries; but not limited to; as they act as a 'hoover' if you like, and will feed off seeds spilt from other aviary birds. However the spilt seed alone is not enough to sustain the quails, therefore you will need to buy a suitable feed for them.
The Japanese and Chinese Painted quail are by far the most popular quail species to raise.
